laterotrichium
(plural laterotrichia))
a small unpaired bone rod above the first pelvic ray in some lower teleosts, e.g. Salmonidae, Osmeridae, Esocidae, Cyprinidae, Cobitidae, Balitoridae and Siluridae. Probably derived from a reduced fin ray (dermatotrichia)
